Continues instruction and practice in manuscript print, then moves in mid-year to cursive handwriting. Practice focuses on passages from the Gospels. A Reason for Handwriting is a complete handwriting curriculum with daily practice focused on verses from Scripture, as presented in the Living Bible paraphrase. Students learn the traditional "ball-and-stick" style of print and a standard cursive hand. By providing students with fancy border sheets on which to do their work (border sheets suitable for display) the authors of A Reason for Handwriting seek to motivate students subconsciously to think of the public nature of their work and, therefore, to improve their handwriting. PLEASE NOTE: Released in the Summer of 2025, this guide book is not compatible with pre-2023 editions of Transitions.

A Reason for Handwriting was a helpful part of our learning during a quiet afternoon session. It helped with getting an idea started before worrying about polish. For us, the value was in returning to it regularly.
