About this curriculum

Initial Consonants: 21 lessons teach the initial consonants and the sounds they make. Teacher-directed instructions include auditory exercises for whole group instruction. A story or poem helps introduce the consonant and can be displayed on a SMART Board (or other interactive whiteboards) for whole group instruction. Three worksheets provide practice and review. Six visual and auditory tests can be used to test your students' skill in the recognition of the initial consonants and the sounds that they make in the initial position. Final Consonants: 7 lessons teach the final consonants and the sounds they make. Once the students have mastered the identification of the visual form of the initial consonants and their auditory sounds, final consonants should be taught. These sounds are to be taught in the following groups: s, m, t; p, n, ck; f, r, b; g, d, l; k, x, z. Teacher-directed instructions include auditory exercises for whole group instruction.
