From Novice to Budding Artist—in Six Visual, Guided Lessons Join the ranks of celebrated artists like Claude Monet and Leonardo da Vinci by creating your own beautiful art with oil paints! In the elective Oil Painting course , a professional artist teaches the basics of tools, techniques, and methods used in oil painting. From color theory and the history of oil painting to layering paints and texturing, Oil Painting gives students a foundational education in painting. Lessons begin with a supply list and an overview of a concept of technique used in oil painting, along with a small activity to illustrate the concept. For example, in Lesson 5, students learn about depth, distance, and foreshortening, and then are shown a collage of classic famous paintings and are asked to note which technique each artist used to create depth and distance. Through the step-by-step pictures in each lesson, students will complete six of their own personal oil painting masterpieces.
