About this curriculum
Strengthen early reading skills with Word Families: 3 & 4 Letters for Grades 1–3. Students practice rhyming, decoding, spelling, and reading longer word families through engaging worksheets, silly stories, riddles, and picture matching. This resource aligns with Canadian provincial/territorial literacy standards (phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling patterns, vocabulary development) and meets U.S. Common Core Grade 1 Foundational Skills (RF.1.2, RF.1.3, RF.1.4). Perfect for classrooms, literacy centers, intervention, and home learning. Twenty-four-word families are covered in this resource featuring 3 and 4 letter word families for each of the 5 vowels. For each family, three parallel activities are included. Lessons start with a simple printing exercise, followed by an exercise for the use of words in context to draw out meanings. Picture matching is used to enhance connections. The third activity focuses on deeper understanding and use of the words in context, spelling, and grammar skills. Games like picture bingo, riddles, and silly poems and stories make this a resource that is both practical as well as enjoyable for students.…
